Rent reduced for Riders, early budget items approved by Regina Council

This weekend could be an expensive one for those who have a habit of running red lights in Regina – as of Friday, the red light cameras are handing out fines again instead of warnings.
That’s a good thing for at least four drivers in Regina.
When 980 CJME’s reporter watched the Sask Drive and Albert Street intersection for an hour on Thursday afternoon, she watched four vehicles drive through blatantly red lights. Had they done a day later, they could have gotten hefty tickets in the mail.
In October, 980 CJME reported that the city was getting ready to install new red light cameras after the old ones hadn’t been operational in years.
The new cameras were installed in December, the City of Regina announced a two-month grace period to allow people to get accustomed to the cameras again.
As of Friday the grace period is over, and instead of warnings, people caught running red lights by the cameras will get a ticket for $230.
