A man wanted on a Canada-wide warrant is in custody and facing charges after allegedly brandishing a knife at Moose Jaw police Friday.
Police say it began with a call about a stolen vehicle in the 100 block of Manitoba Street East.
Within minutes, police say officers found the vehicle, abandoned and running, on the 200 block of High Street East.
After investigating, police discovered the suspect was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for a parole violation.
Officers were able to track the man down at an apartment near the 0 block of Stadacona Street West.
When police made an attempt to arrest the man, he fled back into the apartment and waved a knife towards them. After that, police allege he barricaded himself in a bedroom with other people.
According to police, negotiators were called in to communicate with the man, who was threatening suicide. Eventually, police say, negotiators were able to convince the man to allow two people to leave the bedroom.
The RCMP Emergency Response Team was eventually called in to help arrest the man.
The accused was then taken to Moose Jaw’s Dr. F.H. Wigmore Regional Hospital with a self-inflicted injury.
The man is charged with assault with a weapon and theft of a motor vehicle.
He will make his first court appearance later this week.
