A strong second period led the Edmonton Oil Kings to victory over the Regina Pats on Sunday.
Austin Pratt scored his 20th goal of the season in the first period to give his team the lead heading into the first intermission, but things fell apart for Regina in the second.
Edmonton was able to notch three goals in under six and a half minutes.
Carter Souch scored just 50 seconds into the middle frame to tie things up at one goal apiece before teammate Scott Atkinson found the back of the net a minute later.
David Kope put up the third goal of the period at the 6:25 mark to give the Oil Kings 3-1 lead.
Regina was able to lock it down for the rest of the period and keep it within two heading into the second intermission.
The Oil Kings weren’t done, however, with former Swift Current Bronco Andrew Fyten getting on the board three minutes into the third.
Logan Nijhoff got one back for the Pats with 5:47 remaining in the game, but Edmonton finished things off with an empty netter with less than a minute to go.
The final score was 5-2.
The Pats were outshot 45-36 in the matchup and Max Paddock made 40 saves.
The loss to the Oil Kings marked the end of a productive four-game road trip for the Pats who won three of the four games against their centre division opponents.
The team returns home for a rematch against Oil Kings on Friday night.
