Ahead of its leanest season, the Regina Food Bank has had a big response with its latest campaign.
All through May the food bank set up dinner setting in different spots around the city, asking people to give for the Every Plate Full campaign.
The goal was to raise enough food and money for 100,000 meals. On Tuesday, CEO of the Regina Food Bank Steve Compton revealed it had actually raised enough for 155,000 meals.
“(The) Regina community seems to always go above and beyond, and there’s something about giving back that I think is special here,” said Compton.
At the end of the campaign Compton said Regina was battling it out for the top fundraiser across the country for the campaign.
This comes at a good time for the food bank, the shelves of which can often get bare in the summer.
“It’s not the time of year when, necessarily, we’d be top of mind – our food supplies dwindle. And this comes at just the right time to help us make sure that we can get through those tough summer months before fall.”
