Graham DeLaet withdraws from PGA Tour event due to 'incredible anxiety'

Anxiety has put a sudden stop to Graham DeLaet’s golf season.

The Weyburn golfer disclosed on twitter that anxiety over chipping and putting is the reason he withdrew from this week’s PGA Tour stop.

I’m dealing with incredible anxiety while chipping/pitching right now. It’s not fun. I needed to WD to get it sorted out and get back ASAP.

Last week, DeLaet toured the prairies pitching his new beer and talked about getting back on tour to make a run at clinching his spot on Canada’s Olympic Golf Team. DeLaet is currently ranked second among Canadians, with the top two making the Olympics. He is ahead of Moose Jaw born, Adam Hadwin, on the World Golf Rankings by 34 spots and he’s just five back of top ranked Canadian, David Hearn.

The Olympic team will be named on July 11th.

DeLaet started strong on the PGA Tour with four top 20 finishes in his first 10 events, including one top five finish at the Valspar Championship in March. DeLaet has missed the cut in his last two events, most recently at the Byron Nelson Classic two weeks ago.

While DeLaet is ranked 24th on tour in greens in regulation, it’s when he misses the green on his approach that is having a tremendous toll on his game and now we know weighing on his mind as well. DeLaet is ranked 188th in strokes gained around the green and 178th in sand saves.
