Regina police have taken a 30-year-old man into custody following an incident in southeast Regina Friday.
Around 11 a.m., officers were dispatched to a home on Britannia Place, just off Windsor Park Crescent, in the Windsor Park neighbourhood. The call indicated a man was in a garage on the property and threatening to hurt himself.
When the officers arrived on scene, they removed the other people in the house, but the man would not allow himself to be taken into custody. A request was made for Crisis Negotiators, SWAT, and Canine members.
Police say the man surrendered around 5:40 p.m.
The incident is still under investigation.
During the incident, nearby schools were placed into “secure the building mode” as a precaution. “Secure the building” mode is a situation where all outside doors are locked. Each door is monitored by a school staff member until the mode has been lifted. Entry and exit to the building takes place at the front doors only and is monitored by police and school administration. Regular school activities continue.
