Regina house removed from protection list demolished

It took 14 months of bureaucratic wrangling but the old glass house on the corner of Albert Street and College Avenue has been knocked down.

As of June 9, the only thing that remains is the famous glass block curve.

The homeowner, Dennis Dodds, bought the vintage at 13 Leopold Cres. with the intention of tearing it down and building new. But the house was listed on the City of Regina’s Heritage Holding Bylaw list.

Dodds went to council on several occasions documenting the structural issues with the home and that it wasn’t fit to live in. Mold and asbestos had been found in the house and the cost to renovate would have been upwards of $470,000.

Dodds intends to build an environmentally-sustainable home in keeping with the character of the well-known Crescents neighbourhoods.
