Fans have every rite to boo pro athletes if they so choose.
Darren Rovell of ESPN put the new Bryce Harper deal in perspective when he shows that Harper will make more money every time he steps to the plate over the next 13 years than the average fan will make in a year watching him in Philadelphia.
So you see why you should feel a little less sympathy. If the players feel bad they can dab their tears with the pile of cash they could sleep on.
The same goes for John Tavares in his return to New York last night. The fans did boo their former captain ruthlessly. And when you think he could make over 300,000 per goal. I don’t feel too bad.
But the fans in New York did take it too far by throwing a jersey at him; snakes were thrown on the ice. That’s when it crosses the line.
Thankfully nobody got hurt. Well, except for the reputation of the Islanders fan base.
