The week started with what is yet just rumour. There are rumblings that Mosaic Stadium could be the site of an NFL pre-season game this coming August.
The reports have been in print and on the air on both sides of the border. I believe that where there is smoke, there is fire.
The matchup could be between the Raiders and Packers. The Raiders are in a state of transition before a move to Las Vegas. This would be an ideal time to have a pre-season game out of market for the Raiders franchise.
This rumour hits less than two weeks after Regina was awarded the 2020 Grey Cup game. (Remember that the 2013 Grey Cup game put $60 million into Regina’s economy and a new stadium could mean more economic spinoff.)
The new Mosaic Stadium has already hosted an Eagles concert, and will host an NHL outdoor game next hockey season. There is no reason to believe that this rumour isn’t true, and there is no way to deny the fact that up-to-date sports and entertainment infrastructure can pay for itself in a hurry.
