Council retroactively slashed $1.33 million in rent owed by the Roughriders.
Regina police have concluded that the report of a woman being sexually assaulted in an alley downtown on June 1 was “unfounded”.
A 23-year-old woman reported to police that a man followed her into the west alley of Scarth Street between 11th and 12th Avenue and sexually assaulted her at 5:30 p.m. Police tracked down a suspect based on her description.
“Subsequent investigation produced objective, independent evidence which indicated what was described to police, in the original report, was not accurate,” police stated in a news release. “This evidence, in fact, exonerated the alleged suspect.”
Police have now wrapped up the investigation and will not lay charges against the man described in the report.
The news release goes on to say that every report of sexual assault is taken seriously and each case is a unique circumstance.
The police are careful to point out that while particular case was based on a false allegation, it has no bearing on other reported incidents of sexual assault or future reports.
