There’s a break in a cold case after a man vanished from the Watrous area eight years ago.
Police arrested 31-year-old Taylor Wolff in Moose Jaw Friday afternoon and charged the Saskatoon man with the second-degree murder of James Carlson.
“The investigators of the RCMP historical case unit are dedicated. Their commitment is always to continue investigating a case until it’s solved,” said RCMP Inspector Karen Munro from “F” division headquarters in Regina.
Munro explained how Carlson disappeared from Watrous under suspicious circumstances in May 2008. He was last seen at a video store on May 14. Five days later, his work truck and tools were found abandoned in a field near Allan, Saskatchewan.
After examining his residence, police had enough evidence to determine he was likely murdered.
In the last eight years, tips from the public have come in and extensive searches have been carried out in the Watrous, Imperial, and Holdfast areas. Three years ago, RCMP created a YouTube video asking farmers and land owners to check their property for any sign of Carlson.
His body has not yet been found.
“To my knowledge, the victim and Mr. Wolff were known to each other so this was not a random incident,” said Munro.
She revealed the investigation is not over and believes there are others out there who may be involved with the murder.
Wolff will be in Saskatoon Provincial Court on Monday morning.
