RCMP are working on identifying remains found inside a burning vehicle on Highway 4 Friday afternoon.
A four-door blue Hyundai Elantra was fully engulfed in flames when officers arrived at the scene, between North Battleford and the Mosquito First Nation, shortly after 1 p.m.
The remains were found in the back seat after the flames were extinguished.
While the identity isn’t yet know, RCMP believe the remains are that of a man. An autopsy has been tentatively scheduled for Wednesday.
Mounties say five people had been in the car before it caught fire, but all five hitched a ride to the First Nation. While police have spoken with the five people, they are still looking to speak to anyone who may have passed by the scene or seen the vehicle, before or during the blaze.
