With warm temperatures on the way, Wascana Park in Regina should return to being a lively hub of activity.
That was the case this past weekend, when a few players from O’Neill High School’s football team kicked the season off early by running drills just outside the legislature.
On the marshy grass, the Grade 11 boys spread out agility cones and ran some scrimmages.
“Just get in the best shape of our lives for our last football season,” said Koobari Deekor. “We wanted to take advantage of the weather.”
The season starts in August but Deekor said the team’s already getting to school at 6 a.m. to lift weights.
About the conditions, Gonzalo Osorio said, “the ground’s a little bit damp but (we’re) still able to cut.”
Regina is in for a warm week, with Environment Canada forecasting sunshine and a high of 13 C on Tuesday.
