The City of Regina has taken control of the Capital Pointe hole.
On Feb. 5, the Saskatchewan Building and Accessibility Standards Appeal Board ruled that the hole at the corner of Albert Street and Victoria Avenue had to be filled by March 30.
Westgate Properties Ltd. — the owners of the Capital Pointe property — were told to do the job, but the City of Regina was given permission to fill the hole if the developer didn’t.
In preparation for that possibility, the city started taking tenders on March 12. The March 30 deadline came and went, so the city is preparing to do the work.
The city’s request for proposals is open until April 11.
“We appreciate and understand public interest given the prominent location of this property,” the city said in a statement released Monday. “We are committed to keeping the public informed and will provide an update when the contract to fill the hole is awarded.”
The statement added that the city won’t have any further comment.
On March 23, a group of people gathered to sarcastically bid farewell to the hole, which has been a fixture in downtown Regina since the fall of 2015.
