Connor McDavid wears the ‘C’ in Edmonton and we’re finally seeing the leader emerge.
McDavid in the last week has not only shown his frustration, but voiced it.
There is only one place McDavid wants to be at this time of year and it’s not doing another wrapup of a disappointing season. He wants to be gearing up for the playoffs and a chance to win a Stanley Cup.
Consider his talent level. McDavid is there with Sidney Crosby, Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr and Gordie Howe.
All of them had a Stanley Cup by the end of their fourth season except Gretzky. But in Gretzky’s fifth season, the Oilers began a run of four titles in five seasons.
They also had great talent around them. Outside of Leon Draisaitl, McDavid and the Oilers need serious help.
McDavid called out the depth of the team on Sunday and in doing so has called out the former general manager and sent a clear message to president Bob Nicholson and owner Daryl Katz.
And in an era where star athletes either get what they want or move on, the Oilers had better get this right and right away.
