You can now pay with your phone if you bank with Affinity or Conexus Credit Union.
The two companies have launched technology for Android phone users.
“We had one customer pay last week … I was like, ‘Oh my God, somebody just paid with their phone,’” said Maile Crowe, owner of Thrive Juice Company.
Crowe said she feels it’s faster than interact flash.
“It will speed things up,” she said. “There are no wait times to connect.”
Phuc Hoang is already a regular user.
“I take my phone everywhere. It’s a much easier way for me to pay,” he said.
Apple users won’t be able to use the technology just yet.
“It wasn’t our choice,” said Affinity CEO Mark Lane. “We hope to roll it out sometime in the future, when it’s convenient for Apple.”
Purchasers using mobile pay can be made at any Canadian retailer that has the flash logo.
“A lot of our customers are asking for this technology,” said Lane. “We aren’t trying to move away from plastic, but we see this as the way of the future.”
More Canadian Credit Unions plan on rolling out the service later this year.
“We want to implement what our customers want,” Lane said. “It’s important that we continue to evolve each and every day.”
You can pay up to $100 on your phone before you have to enter your pin number.
