It may be the first weekend of NHL playoffs but a Regina bar is switching the channel from hockey to Game of Thrones.
Erin Dunn is the owner of The Hop & Vine, which is holding live viewing parties of the HBO show every Sunday.
“There’s obviously a lot of hype going on right now for the final season so we thought we’d make an event out of it,” said Dunn.
The Hop & Vine believes it has the largest indoor LED screen on a bar wall in the city, measuring nine by 15 feet.
“Almost every seat in the house has a view of the wall,” said Dunn.
The bar has a theatre sound system and doesn’t anticipate that customers will have any troubles hearing the show. Dunn explained there will be some level of chatter as food and drinks are served.
Admission to the Sunday viewing parties is free and the bar is taking reservations. The Hop & Vine has also showed the Oscars and Grammys, with plans for a Kentucky Derby party and more.
“We want to venture away, far beyond just sports. It is a huge screen and we’ll do concerts and all that kind of stuff as well.”
Game of Thrones fans are also encouraged to dress up as their favourite character, props welcomed. Whether they’re dressed in the colours of House Stark or House Lannister, Dunn assures this is no red wedding gathering and everyone will leave alive.
“We don’t have any security in here but I think we can all be friends.”
The final season of Game of Thrones premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. on HBO.
