The City of Regina is looking for help deciding what to do with the green space currently occupied by the Regent Par 3.
The golf course is currently operational but has been underperforming for years, according to Janine Daradich, the city’s manager of planning and partnerships.
City administration has proposed four different concepts for the 4.89-hectare (12.08-acre) space on McKinley Avenue, including one that has just green space, one with green space and senior living space, one with townhouses and green space, and one with townhouses, senior living space and green space.
“We heard from the community that recreation amenities were very important,” Daradich said. “(The plans) include things like walking paths, picnic areas, a large playground and spray pad area and a program element which is the soccer field.”
The first plan would cost an estimated $2.46 million, all of which the city would need to pay. The second concept would cost an estimated $2.38 million, but the city figures it would generate $2.73 million in land sales for a net gain of $350,000.
The cost of the third concept is estimated at $2.28 million, but land sales would create an estimated $1.8 million in revenue — meaning an additional $480,000 would be needed to complete the project. The estimated cost of the fourth plan also is $2.28 million, but an estimated $3.2 million in land sales would create an estimated $920,000 in revenue.
The city is hosting a community consultation to get input on the site on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Gathering Place. City officials will be on site to answer questions and refreshments will be provided.
For those who can’t make it to the consultation in person, there is an online feedback option on the city’s website. Online feedback is open until April 25.
