A 19-year-old man made his first court appearance on a first-degree murder charge Monday in connection with Regina’s second homicide of 2019.
Jayshree Isiah Joel Apooch initially was charged with attempted murder after a stabbing on April 10, but that charge was upgraded after further investigation.
In a media release Monday, the Regina Police Service also identified the victim as 49-year-old Shaun Napoleon Watcheston of Regina.
Apooch was arrested April 11 after a pair of incidents in the city.
On April 10, police officers responded to a call of an injured male in the 300 block of Rae Street. The victim was taken to hospital, where he died two days later.
On April 11, officers were dispatched to the 600 block of 4th Avenue East after reports of an alleged assault with a weapon. A 56-year-old man wasn’t injured in the attempted stabbing.
An investigation led police to Apooch, who was arrested April 11 and charged in connection with both incidents.
