No NHL team is having a better playoff performance than the Detroit Red Wings.
Yeah, yeah. The Red Wings didn’t even qualify for the post-season, for the third straight year. And they haven’t won a playoff series since 2013. But right in the middle of the first round, the Red Wings announced that Steve Yzerman was returning to Motor City as the team’s general manager.
It wasn’t a surprise. Yzerman resigned as Tampa Bay’s general manager before this season, saying he wanted to spend more time with his family. Yzerman lives in Detroit, where he spent 22 seasons as a franchise-foundation player, won three Stanley Cups and qualified for the Hall of Fame.
He joined Detroit’s front office before moving to Tampa Bay, where he built the NHL’s best regular-season roster before departing. Yzerman also won Olympic gold as a player and two as Canada’s executive director.
Of course he was going to rejoin the Red Wings and restore them to glory. Can you tell this was written by a Red Wings fan?
