The province is looking for some bright ideas on a new utility-scale solar power project.
SaskPower wants to build a 10-megawatt (MW) solar power project but has not decided on a location. SaskPower is moving forward with the Request for Proposal (RFP) phase, which closes in October.
The Crown corporation said proponents are asked to pick a site in their application. Each site will then be evaluated through an environmental pre-screening.
SaskPower has committed to adding 60 MW of solar power to the grid by 2021. The successful bid will be announced in early 2020 with the project expected to be complete as early as December of 2021.
In a release, Minister Responsible for SaskPower Dustin Duncan said, “Adding another 10 megawatts of solar power will help us meet growing demand for electricity while continuing to move toward SaskPower’s goal of reducing carbon emissions 40 per cent below 2005 levels by 2030.”
