Mitch Marner, Toronto’s leading point producer in the NHL regular season, hasn’t had a shot on goal in the Leafs’ past two playoff games against the Boston Bruins.
In Game 5, the Leafs somehow pulled out a 2-1 win to take a 3-2 series lead over Boston. The Bruins were the better team two days ago with a 4-2 win in Toronto, as the Leafs had no answer for Brad Marchand.
It’s an old saying, but your best players have to be your best players. Marner will have to generate more shots in Game 7 tonight in Boston if the Leafs are going to have a chance.
One of the storylines going into Game 7 is the fact that Boston has beaten Toronto in Game 7s in 2018 and 2013. That should matter to fans and media more than players. Marner and the Leafs need to concern themselves with more recent history. Toronto has scored a grand total of four goals in two games.
Two goals likely won’t be enough to win Game 7 in Boston.
