The RCMP’s underwater recovery team was searching Thursday for the body of a 30-year-old man who is believed to have drowned Tuesday in Kamsack.
The Kamsack RCMP reported that members of the dive team were attempting to find the man’s body in the waters of the Assiniboine River while also searching the shorelines.
On Tuesday afternoon, the RCMP and the Kamsack Fire Department were called to the Riverside Golf Course for a report of persons in distress.
Upon arrival, police and firefighters discovered a woman trying to rescue a man who was clinging to a log at the dam. Officers, firefighters and bystanders tried to save the man but also had to retrieve the woman, who fell into the water while trying to help the man.
The 44-year-old woman was pulled out of the water, but the man went under the surface. It’s believed he drowned in the current created near the dam.
