Crashes during the Canada Day long weekend claimed the lives of two people near Melfort.
One woman was killed when her vehicle hit a train on Sunday. It happened at a railroad crossing in Melfort at 3 p.m. Melfort RCMP said they found the 51-year-old woman dead and a seriously injured 49-year-old man at the scene.
Also during the weekend, an 88-year-old man died after a crash south of Melfort on Highway 6. His car crossed the highway and was struck by an oncoming pickup truck. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The 54-year-old driver of the pickup truck was treated and released from hospital.
The investigation in both cases is ongoing.
