Welcome to the CFL’s version of ‘Better Call Saul.’
As in Solomon Elimimian. The 32-year-old veteran linebacker is being released by the B.C. Lions.
Call it the Mike Reilly effect for the Lions. After paying up big for a quarterback, you’ll see some veteran contracts get slashed.
And quickly the Saskatchewan Roughriders were on the phone, as were other CFL teams looking to improve their linebacking corps.
Elimimian would fill a giant hole for the Riders after losing Sam Eguavoen to the National Football League.
Yes, Elimimian is getting up there in age and is coming off injury but we don’t see anybody on the Riders’ roster right now who won’t need some grooming to take over in the linebacking corps.
A one-year deal, a quick fix, a stop-gap contract for Elimimian and the Riders could be just what the doctor ordered.
But the Riders aren’t alone in the hunt for one of best linebackers the CFL has ever seen.
