Flyers who use long-term parking at the Regina airport will see some savings on their parking tabs come June 1.
The airport authority is cutting long-term parking rates for vehicles parked at the hub for more than five days.
That means a user will pay $15 per day for the first five days, but starting on the sixth day, they’ll pay $7 per day. The current rate for parking more than five days is still $15 per day.
Weekly and biweekly parking rates are also getting a trim.
A user will now be charged $89 for a week of parking (down from $105). They’ll pay $138 for two weeks of parking (down from $210).
A news release from the airport authority says the $11-per-day economy parking lot “will be phased out with these new lower prices.”
The economy parking lot will be converted to an overflow lot.
Airport adapting to ridesharing
Airport authority president James Bogusz said there are also changes coming to the annual user fee for commercial operators, like ridesharing companies, taxis and buses. The annual fee will be dropped and replaced with a uniform, pay-per-use fee, depending on vehicle size.
Talking on the 980 CJME Greg Morgan Morning Show on Tuesday, Bogusz said the airport welcomes rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft.
A vehicle with up to seven seats will pay $2 per trip (defined as a pick-up or drop-off) to the airport. An eight- to 14-seat vehicle will pay $5 per trip.
Vehicles in the 15- to 24-seat range pay $10 per trip, and vehicles with 25 or more seats pay $20 per trip.
“We feel it’s the best way to make sure our customers have choice, and that every commercial operator, regardless of (how many trips they make), pay the same small fee,” Bogusz said.
