Saskatchewan Roughriders training camp this season will be centred around three positions: Quarterbacks, receivers, and offensive linemen.
Why just the offence? Well, the starting 12 on defence is close to set. As always, the Riders won’t mind seeing new faces impress and challenge those 12 veterans.
At quarterback, Zach Collaros is the No. 1 guy. But Collaros being No. 1 raises the importance of the Riders finding a solid No. 2 because they are likely to see more than just some game action this season. Cody Fajardo, David Watford and Isaac Harker are the candidates.
The Riders’ receivers have some second-year players looking for breakout seasons, but the Riders could use a big time playmaker in the group to emerge. They also need young Canadians, especially the two they just drafted, to look the part of future starting receivers.
And finally, to keep Collaros healthy, the Riders’ offensive line has to be among the best in the league. They could improve their American tackles and it’s going to be a great fight in camp to see how the Canadian interior linemen piece together.
Oh, it’s nice to be talking football again! Let the camp battles begin!
