The court found she had done nothing wrong, but former teacher Erin Omsund Kaziuk will likely not be stepping into a Saskatchewan classroom any time soon.
Kaziuk – who was in her late 20s at the time – admitted to having a relationship with a 16-year-old boy who had been her student when she was teaching in Watrous in 2012-13.
She was charged with sexual exploitation. Court heard the two became close while she was his teacher, but didn’t start having sex until Kaziuk’s contract ended.
Kaziuk was found not guilty of the charge last spring – the decision saying the woman was no longer in a position of trust or authority over the boy when they began having sex.
On Wednesday the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation posted a decision from mid-June online, ordering that Kaziuk’s teaching certificate be cancelled.
