Will we be talking about a bathroom break as a turning point in the Stanley Cup final?
The story goes that Carl Gunnarsson tells head coach Craig Berube that all he needs is another chance, after the St. Louis Blues’ veteran defenceman hit a post late in the third period Wednesday.
Gunnarsson’s brief thought, story goes, was in the bathroom between the third period and overtime.
And wouldn’t you know it, Gunnarsson scores the overtime winner less than four minutes into the extra period.
The last major bathroom playoff memory was Roberto Luongo missing the first few minutes of an overtime period while a member of the Vancouver Canucks because of a little stomach issue.
This one ended a lot better.
It’s unclear what the coach said to Gunnarsson. Maybe Berube is a non-talker at the urinal. There are those who get a little stage fright when someone starts talking to them, which is understandable.
Thankfully for the Blues, there was no stage fright from Gunnarsson in crunch time as he wired the puck past Tuukka Rask to tie the series.
And with the series going back to St. Louis, the hope of Saskatchewan’s favourite team in this Cup final grows.
