Only the most ardent Saskatchewan Roughriders fans will recognize more than a handful of names on the CFL team’s roster tonight for a pre-season game against the hometown Calgary Stampeders.
Pre-season? Bah, humbug!
What a waste of time! There are some people looking forward to CFL exhibition action, otherwise it wouldn’t be televised on TSN. But unless you’re a coach or related to some little-known rookie trying to crack the roster, watching the full game becomes a tedious task.
Saskatchewan’s second pre-season game, Thursday against the visiting Winnipeg Blue Bombers, should showcase some of the more impressive newcomers and most of the healthy incumbents.
For this contest, the Roughriders are even doing what most CFL teams do — they’re resting their starting quarterback. Zach Collaros, who has a penchant for suffering concussions, will travel with the team while four other guys vie for the backup role with a cast of understudies.
Considering he’s working with a rebuilt offensive line and an underwhelming receiving corps, Collaros could use the work. So could many of the veterans, most of whom will stay at home, watching the game on TSN.
