It’s official. An NFL pre-season game, initially set for Regina, will be held in Winnipeg this summer. A North America-wide audience will look in on Manitoba as the Green Bay Packers take on the Oakland Raiders on Aug. 22.
I’m surprised at so many in Western Canada who believe the debate is about whether or not they should attend the game. That’s not the issue. If you believe ticket prices are too high, or that Investors Group Field is too far away, then don’t go.
This is about economics. There are many concerts, festivals and exhibits that are good for my city and my province that I don’t attend. That doesn’t mean they shouldn’t exist. Cities, provinces and anchor tenants of venues that are, for the most, part publicly funded should be open for business.
Congratulations to the Bombers, different levels of government and the people of Manitoba. They get it, and will cash in economically. We here in Saskatchewan, apparently, have some growing up to do.
