Toronto Raptors fans got called out after the Game 5 loss after cheering and taunting Kevin Durant as he left the court with a clear Achilles tendon injury.
Good on Danny Green, Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka for taking over the moment to kill the fans’ ill will toward one of the game’s biggest stars.
Yes, it’s an emotional moment. Kevin Durant’s will to play should be commended.
There were doubts on Durant’s commitment to the Warriors, because he was likely leaving anyway.
Well, Durant shut everyone up by playing a courageous and gutsy 12 minutes of basketball, scoring 11 points and getting the Warriors to a lead that helped them force a Game 6.
The Warriors were emotionally drained after winning. They watched Durant risk his career to try and help them win a series they looked completely out of.
Durant easily could have called it a season and not risked anything. Now his team could be recharged, remotivated and refocused, thanks to him.
But his teammates will have to lay it all on the line, like Durant did on Monday, to win this series.
