More adult players are now investing in the protective equipment.
The federal government will give $4.53 million towards a major water project in Saskatchewan.
Ralph Goodale, minister of public safety and emergency preparedness, made the announcement Friday in Whitecap Dakota First Nation, located 26 kilometres south of Saskatoon.
“Modern, efficient, reliable waste water systems are a crucial part of our quality of life every day,” Goodale said. “They make our communities attractive, healthy and liveable.”
The money will fund an expansion to Whitecap’s drinking water treatment plant and construction of two new aerated lagoon cells for wastewater treatment.
The changes are expected to support further residential development around Whitecap’s top-ranked golf course, as well as a hotel with a convention centre and a 40-acre business park.
Ottawa and the province are each contributing up to $4.53 million toward the project through the Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component – National and Regional Projects.
Whitecap Dakota First Nation will cover the remainder of the estimated $13.59-million total cost.
Government Relations Minister Jim Reiter and Whitecap Dakota First Nation Chief Darcy Bear were also at Friday’s announcement.
The project is expected to generate more than 300 jobs for the region.
