It was another wild and stormy night Wednesday as a twister touched down northeast of Bethune while wind, rain and hail hammered parts of southern Saskatchewan
Environment Canada confirmed that a tornado touched down 10 kilometres northeast of Bethune at 5:33 p.m. Fortunately there was no damage or injuries reported from the twister.
Environment Canada meteorologist Jason Knight says in addition to the rain, the wind also blasted through the Moose Jaw area.
“We saw some gusts in about the 80 kilometre range, that was just behind the low in the evening hours as it pulled out of the area,” he said.
Hail also hit parts of the province, but Yorkton and Melville area got the worst of it.
“We had toonie-sized hail in Yorkton, but just 20 kilometres to the southwest we had tennis ball-sized hail so it was pretty large hail out there,” Knight commented.
The southwest part of the province spent most of Wednesday under heavy rainfall warnings. The town of Mantario, Saskatchewan near the Alberta border northwest of Leader got 100 millimetres which is just about four inches. Elrose and Eston had rainfall amounts around the 90 mm range.
