Jamie Nye: ’60s and ’70s sounded cool, man

I’ll admit it. I’m a little jealous of the era my parents had with some of their earliest memories as teens in the 1960s and moving into their 20s in the 1970s.

Beatlemania. Space race. The Leafs’ last Stanley Cup win. The list goes on and on of the things those who shared that generation lived.

This coming weekend is the 50th anniversary of the moon landing. Later this summer is the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. In a few years it’ll be 50 years since Watergate.

I know it wasn’t all rosy. The Cold War, racism at a fever pitch, assassinations and more. But I often think what will be remembered of this generation.

Facebook spying on us. Google spying on us. The music is not revolutionary at all. The current events are the Kardashians and Trump?

I also understand those who are now reaching into their 60s and 70s would tell me they’d be happy to be in my 30s. But I can only dream of witnessing what feels like much more significant historical moments than what’s going on right now.

Although, maybe I’ll also get to witness a Leafs Stanley Cup win someday. Maybe.
