What does it all mean?
38-25 is an impressive win for the Riders after their bye week. Both the Riders and there opponent, the B.C. Lions, had to show some desperation after just having one win to show for the first five weeks of the season.
The Riders prevailed and pushed the Lions to nearly must-win territory for this week’s rematch.
But have the Riders proven anything other than they are the seventh-best team in the league? They have now defeated the league’s worst Toronto Argonauts and now the eighth-best team in the league with their Lions victory.
A segment of the fan base was quick with the refrain, “it was only B.C.”
While it was a bit of a Debbie-downer opinion after an impressive game, they’re right. So far, the Riders can be classified as the seventh-best team in the league.
Seventh will not get you into the playoffs. Even if the Riders do it again this week against B.C., you should be somewhat cautious to not overrate the green and white.
Beating teams you should is fine and all, but to believe these wins mean much more than that, let’s see how they do against a much more polished team, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, on Aug. 1.
