Sam Emilus is the Riders' leading receiver in 2024.
Injuries are part of the game, but seeing 66 per cent of the league’s starting quarterbacks on the injured list a third of the way into the season is frustrating for fans who want to see the best.
Bo Levi Mitchell and now Jeremiah Masoli are out; they were among the top three quarterbacks coming into this season.
The other third of the top three, Mike Reilly, may not be far behind with the way he has been pummeled in B.C.
But let’s look at the silver lining of the quarterback injuries. Of the five teams that have seen QBs go down, a majority of them are winning.
Riders fans believe Cody Fajardo is their guy now, thanks to Zach Collaros’ concussion in Week 1.
Vernon Adams Jr. has grabbed hold of the Alouettes’ reins with three straight wins since Antonio Pipkin went down.
And the Stampeders haven’t missed much of a beat with Nick Arbuckle taking over for Mitchell.
The deeper the quarterback depth in this league, the better. We see how bad it can look with bad quarterbacking in Toronto.
Now Dane Evans is the next backup to show if he can lead the Tiger-Cats. While I’d rather see Masoli leading Hamilton, Fajardo has certainly shown us all in Saskatchewan to not ever doubt what the backup can do.
