Sask. man fined for unlawful hunting near Kipling

Three elk were found dead and hurt in a field near Kipling last year and now a man from Indian Head has pleaded guilty to charges.

The incident happened last December. Conservation officers were called to investigate an elk herd that had been shot at in a field southeast of Kipling.

When they arrived, officers found a cow elk that had been killed and field-dressed, a bull elk that had been killed but was being wasted, and a calf that was injured and had to be put down.

Thanks to some information which came in through the SaskTips line, Lex W. Bartsch, 43, was charged. He pleaded guilty to wasting game, hunting within 500 metres of occupied buildings, and unlawful possession of wildlife. Bartsch was fined $5,360 and banned from hunting for one year.
