The 37th annual Folkfest kicks off Thursday night at Prairieland Park.
Organizers said there’s something new for everyone this year.
“We don’t want it to be a deja vu pavilion,” said Teri Rau, executive director of Saskatoon Folkfest. “We have these enhancement grants, and people are bringing in great new entertainment, new menus and new decor.”
Folkfest brings together cultural communities to showcase the food, entertainment and history of their homeland at designated pavilions.
This year’s event features 20 groups, including new pavilions for Peru, Vietnam, Sudan and South Sudan, all located at the RBC Global Village at Prairieland Park.
“We want you to step into each culture, really immerse yourself,” Rau said.
To help with that, festival goers will be able to use a special app to help guide them around the festival.
“As you approach each pavilion, a little notification comes up with all the menus, entertainment schedules and highlights,” Rau said.
Folkfest passports are available at Mac’s, Safeway and RBC locations in Saskatoon.
The three-day event runs through Aug. 20.
