Film with local flavour makes big screen debut at Mosaic Stadium

The red carpet was rolled out at the old Mosaic Stadium Saturday afternoon for a movie with some local flavour.

Archie, a movie shot at Regina Beach and in Lumsden, made its big screen debut, and at the same time helped raise money for the Hospitals of Regina Foundation.

The movie is about a girl who becomes friends with a robot dog named Archie, who was voiced by Michael J. Fox.

Robin Dunne wrote and directed the movie, and said having Fox do the voice really helped bring the movie together.

“When you watch the film and listen to his voice, it’s such an iconic voice that it really kind of jells the movie together.”

Dunne had high praise for Fox when it came to working with him, saying he’s an “amazing guy to work with … really was into the movie, loved the character.”

Dunne called the decision to shoot the movie in Saskatchewan no-brainer.

“We love working here in Saskatchewan, the province has an amazing film community, I know it’s taken a hit lately … but it soldiers on and there are some amazingly talented crews here, amazingly talented performers.”

Farrah Aviva, an actor originally from B.C. also had high praise for Saskatchewan.

“So wonderful, so easy everyone, whether they’re part of the crew or just people who live in Saskatchewan they are just so supportive.”

Sheldon Bergstrom, a Regina based actor who is in the movie, said Regina Beach was a good location to shoot at.

“They brought in a drone and they filmed all these aerials shots around Regina Beach and in the movie it looks so great … it’s such a great location.”
