Billets were found for all Red Wings players in just four hours.
The Kelly Chase Fantasy Hockey Camp gave people a chance to live a few days in the life of an NHLer for a good cause.
All proceeds go to One Voice, an organization that’s centred around mental health.
Chase is from Porcupine Plain, SK and played for the St Louis Blues before retiring in 2000. He’s been hosting the event in Saskatoon for the last two years.
Lloydminster native and former Toronto Maple Leaf Colby Armstrong was one of the pros participating this year.
Armstrong said it’s a cause close to his heart.
“I have some people in my family who suffer from mental illness and obviously it’s more common than people let on or know,” he said.
“The word is actually starting to get out a lot more now which is a good thing.”
For three days starting Aug. 18th, 2016 the camp took over Harold Latrace Arena for a draft, games, roundtable with current and former NHLers and other events.
“You can probably go around this room with all the people in the tournament and I think everyone in their family has someone dealing with mental health,” Armstrong said.
Final numbers aren’t in yet but the 2015 camp raised $100,000 and the goal was to raise the same this time around.
