For the second time this month, an incident underground has injured a worker at the Agrium potash mine.
Darrin Kruger, the president of United Steelworkers Union Local 7552, said it happened midday Sunday.
“He was attended to by on-site first responders, then transferred to Saskatoon,” Kruger said Monday. “The worker was treated for his injuries at the hospital and is currently recovering.”
Few details are being released about the nature of the man’s injuries, but Kruger said he is expected to make a full recovery.
It comes after another worker was injured Aug. 8, when he was pinned between two pieces of equipment.
Chad Wiklun, 29, died from his injuries three days later.
Kruger said workers at the mine are still dealing with the recent death.
“It’s a shock and we’re still recovering from the last one, we just had the funeral service less than a week ago,” he said.
Work has been idled while Agrium and Occupational Health and Safety review what happened.
