I can’t wait for the Atlantic Schooners!
While nothing is certain and the stadium debate hasn’t even come before a city council yet in Atlantic Canada, CFL fans should be cheering for the Schooners to come sooner rather than later.
Why?
They mean a balanced schedule that doesn’t see every team receive three bye weeks during a season. The Riders are off on their third bye week and the breaks have been lamented by their head coach; once you get momentum going, you have a break.
With a 10th team and a balanced schedule, the CFL should only have one bye week during the season.
That would shorten the CFL season, now 21 weeks long, to 19 weeks.
And if you look at the trickle-down of reducing the season by two weeks, it would land the Grey Cup on Nov. 10, with the playoffs starting in late October.
Now that is a schedule I can support! Too bad we have to wait another two or three years before the Schooners can become a reality.
