University of Regina students heading back to class

The University of Regina is buzzing with activity again this week as students prepare to head back to class.

The largest gym on campus was packed with students on Tuesday for orientation.

A university degree takes a lot of time, work and money so what do students expect to get out of it? For those who spoke to 980 CJME, it’s all about the future.

“(It will) help me with a job in the future and make a good career out of it,” said a first-year business administration student.

One woman said, “(It) would really just help just in future job prospects. It opens up a whole bunch of doors for you, just having a degree itself.”

“It’ll help me to be an educator in the future, I want to be a teacher,” replied another man.

The value for another woman was all about a job.

“The university is really helping us bump up our resumes and get us ready in the workforce.”

The University of Regina campus continues to grow every year with almost 15,000 students enrolled for the coming semester. Two thousand of those people are international students from all over the world.

Lucas is at the university through a program in China. He’d been in the city for a week by orientation day.

“Personally, I love Regina, University of Regina…I think the campus is very good, people here are all very nice.”

Unlike many other students, Lucas’ goal for his education wasn’t a job.

“(It’s) another way to enrich my experiences.”

The first day of classes is Wednesday.
