With summer coming to an end over the September long weekend, it’s back to class for all students.
University of Saskatchewan kids had their first day of classes Tuesday morning.
“It was a little scary,” said first year student, Andrew Hudec. “Bigger than high school, but I’m starting to get the hang of it.”
While others like fifth year Garret Pifko had their last first day of school ever.
“On one hand, I’m going to miss it,” he said. “On the other hand, it will be nice to move on and do other things with my life.”
Third year social work student, Hanah Molloy said she’s excited about the change of routine.
“I’m ready for challenges and to meet new people,” she said. “I love the energy of the first day of school.”
Lots of events have been happening around campus for orientation week like a mock dorm burning to promote fire safety.
“We just want to raise awareness for the new students,” said Saskatoon Fire Department’s community relations coordinator, Kurt Delorme. “We’d rather not go to fires, so we try to educate people about safe practices.”

Some of those safe practices are not leaving a candle unattended, check the smoke alarm regularly, and install a sprinkler in the house.
