The roof debate is back again.
Yes, this time every year when a big game doesn’t sell out, the roof crowd comes in with an “I told you so” when it comes to whether new Mosaic Stadium should have had a roof or is fine as is.
The extra $200 million or so was too big for the City of Regina and its partners to build a $500-million stadium in Saskatchewan.
Instead, you have a $250-million stadium that can only be used for major events six months a year and even then, six months may be pushing it.
A quick look at Ticketmaster and there are no lack of seats available for Saturday’s Saskatchewan Roughriders game against the Edmonton Eskimos, but don’t go around blaming the fans.
Clearly fans don’t think the investment to attend these games is worth it. TSN’s product is pretty good.
Sorry, but watching the Riders try to clinch first place against a depleted Edmonton team in zero-degree temperatures doesn’t really sell when fans know a playoff game is around the corner.
And a roof wouldn’t change that. All a roof would have done is cripple us into further debt.
