The search for suspects in a shooting in Regina led to a File Hills First Nations Police Service (FHFNPS) vehicle being rammed during an attempted traffic stop Thursday.
According to a media release from the FHFNPS, that service got a call to assist the Regina Police Service in the search for a stolen vehicle and for suspects who were believed to be involved in a shooting earlier Thursday in the Queen City.
As a FHFNPS member patrolled a Carry The Kettle community, the officer found the suspects’ vehicle. The officer started to pursue the vehicle, but it accelerated, made a U-turn and rammed the police vehicle.
The suspects got out of their vehicle and ran off. A search by the FHFNPS and members of the RCMP’s Indian Head detachment later determined the suspects had been given a ride to Regina.
“The driver of the stolen vehicle, while not from the community, is well-known to police,” the FHFNPS release said. “The passenger has family connections in the community.”
The police are continuing to investigate.
