I’ve been thinking about a TSN.ca story about the Los Angeles Chargers.
Earlier this week The Athletic reported that the NFL has discussed relocation of the Chargers to London, England.
The team can’t build a fan base in L.A. The NFL has denied the report.
Next season the Chargers will share a stadium with the more popular Rams in Los Angeles.
There is some degree of trial and error when it comes to the four prominent professional sports leagues (NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL).
The Leafs, Lakers, Packers and Yankees obviously aren’t going anywhere.
However the NBA has tried its hand in Vancouver, the NHL in Atlanta (twice) and the NFL is no longer in St. Louis.
Owners and leagues will try anything to be profitable.
That’s why I believe it’s coming. I’m not sure it’s going to be a success, but I do believe that one of the four major North American leagues will try to place a franchise in an overseas market in the not-too-distant future.
