Country Thunder’s head of marketing called it serendipitous that the festival was able to book three of the biggest acts in country music all for the 2020 festival.
In front of a small crowd Friday morning, the festival announced its lineup for the coming year, including headliners Luke Combs (on July 12), Kane Brown (July 11), Dan & Shay (July 10), and Clint Black (July 9).
Country Thunder’s Gerry Krochak said Combs is the biggest thing in music right now.
“I thought we ended real strong with Chris Stapleton last year, so to come back with Luke Combs in 2020 is huge for us,” Krochak said.
Combs won male vocalist of the year at the Country Music Awards on Wednesday, while Dan & Shay won vocal duo of the year.
“(It’s) kind of a fresh lineup for Saskatchewan, as well as some great nods to tradition,” explained Krochak.
Also hitting the stage during the festival are Chad Brownlee, James Barker Band, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Tanya Tucker, Tenille Townes, Wynonna, Washboard Union, Jade Eagleson, Bobby Wills, MacKenzie Porter, and Andrew Hyatt.
Local talent is on the bill as well, with Tenille Arts and the Hunter Brothers.
“We’ve had the Hunter Brothers play in some of our U.S. shows and they go over like gangbusters,” Krochak said. “Tenille Arts — all of those careers are just skyrocketing and it’s not just in Canada, so we’re super-proud of them.
“To have them on this stage in the home province is really special.”
Tickets are already on sale for the festival. They cost $150 for a four-day pass.
