The Salvation Army’s Kettle Campaign is set to get underway for a 129th year.
Capt. Kristen Gray said the Salvation Army will fan out starting Friday to 14 locations across Regina taking donations. The campaign is to run until Dec. 24.
Last year, the Kettle Campaign raised more than $213,000 in the Queen City; this year, the goal is $215,000.
All money raised stays in the community, Gray said, going to programs like the Christmas hamper program, which feeds about 1,500 people during the holiday season.
Proceeds also support services offered year round, including income tax clinics, summer camps, weekly community lunches and emergency food and services.
“We need this money in order to continue on with those community services,” Gray said.
She told The Greg Morgan Morning Show that the Salvation Army provides a lifeline to all sorts of people, including those who wouldn’t typically use its services but who have come across hard times.
“We see lots of single parents, even some grandparents, who just don’t have the means to support their family as they need to. You would be surprised at who we serve,” Gray said.
“And we serve without discrimination. So it doesn’t matter who you are. If you have a need, then we’re here to help.”
Donations of cash or cheques will be accepted, but many kettle locations also will be able to accept donations using debit or credit cards. Donations also can be made online or using a mobile device at FilltheKettle.com.
